Beah Shin — Quand souffle le vent Nord-Ouest

Le travail de Beah Shin porte sur le paysage qui est, selon son point de vue, une narration. Il montre la situation sociale, politique et émotionnelle que le créateur du paysage a vécu.
L’artiste aborde la notion de paysage selon deux définitions différentes : la notion française, dans laquelle le paysage peut se définir comme espace vécu dans un territoire délimité, et la notion coréenne “Poong kyeon” avec laquelle nous pouvons l’aborder autrement.

Le paysage coréen, ayant été séparé par une frontière entre le Nord et le Sud, à travers l’histoire du pays, est aujourd’hui devenu un paysage imaginaire qui est à la fois réel et irréel, qui revêt des idéologies différentes.

Avec la définition du paysage coréen, Beah crée de nouveaux paysages à partir de scènes paysagères vécues en Corée, afin de les voir tels qu’ils sont, c’est à dire, des scènes naturelles sans vision idéologique.

Son paysage est celui qu’elle a vécu pendant son enfance et est donc mémoriel. La question que l’artiste pose au travers de sa peinture est le fait de voir ou pas le paysage tel qu’il est, comme un lieu qui nous fait rêver et dans lequel on souhaite aller.

Beah Shin's work deals with the landscape which is, according to her point of view, a narration. It shows the social, political and emotional situation the creator of the landscape experienced.

The artist approaches the notion of landscape according to two different definitions: the french notion, in which the landscape can be defined as a lived space in a delimited territory, and the korean notion “Poong kyeon” with which we can approach it differently.

The Korean landscape, having been separated by a border between North and South, throughout the country's history, has today become an imaginary landscape that is both real and unreal, which takes on different ideologies.

With the definition of the Korean landscape, Beah creates new landscapes from landscape scenes experienced in Korea, in order to see them as they are ; natural scenes without ideological vision.

Her landscape is the one she experienced during her childhood and is therefore memorial. The question that the artist asks through his painting is whether or not to see the landscape as it is, as a place that makes us dream and in which we want to go.
